EU Commission fines car manufacturers and association €458 million for ELV recycling cartel
The European Commission has fined 15 major car manufacturers and the European Automobile Manufacturers' Association (ACEA) a total of €458 million for participating in a cartel that restricted competition in end-of-life vehicle (ELV) recycling for over 15 years. The companies colluded to avoid paying dismantlers and withheld information on recycling performance to limit consumer awareness. Mercedes-Benz was granted full immunity for revealing the cartel, while several others received reduced fines for cooperating.
