Spain has taken a step to get rid of scrap tires from beaches as part of the Libera Project. The measure united well-known brands and corporations such as Pirelli Tires, Michelin, Goodyear and others; they joined Signus – Spanish scrap tire management authority – and the Network of Marine Rangers to advance the program labeled “1 Square Metre by Nature”. All parties involved in the initiative sought an aim to effectively remove and manage waste tires so they could be reused.

Scandinavian company Enviro stated that it conducts negotiations with a US company EE-TDF Cleveland LLC, a Denmark-based WindSpace A/S, and a Canada-based enterprise Treadcraft Limited after voicing earlier plans to construct tire recycling facilities that would rely on its patented tire pyrolysis technology. Even though the initial deadline has passed, Enviro says that the chances for realization of these plans remain quite high. The construction has been discussed by the parties for more than a year.

Italian waste tire management authority Ecopneus launched development of a new matting merchandise that contains recycled tire rubber; the development was created in association with the country’s military service, CEMIVET, that supports equine units. However, the product can also be used outside military applications. The company´s general manager stressed that the new product is in line with the principles of sustainability and circular business model.

A UK company Tarmac has launched a new asphalt producing system that uses processed scrap tires and develops roads with the recycled tire rubber. The innovative asphalt solution that contains granulated rubber comes at a time when the United Kingdom generates some 40 million scrap tires annually. The new method will allow reusing over 700 scrap tires for each kilometer of surfacing – this is expected to cut the amount of rubber waste that is being put on exports.

Tyre Stewardship Australia has provided funds to the University of South Australia to conduct research and testing of advanced formula of Crumbed Rubber Concrete (CRC) intended to be used in residential building projects. CRC relies on crumb rubber that is used as partial replacement material to sand in mixtures. Present studies have shown that CRC had absolutely identical performance as traditional concrete in residential construction, and no visual flaws were reported after 3 months.

Chief Operating Officer of Green Distillation Technologies Trevor Bayley slammed resolution of Queensland authorities to not provide the company with Resource Recovery Grant that is intended to assist development of Toowoomba tire recycling facility; according to him, this step may put the project at serious risk. His comments come after the company filed an application for funding of $5 million to cover half of all costs needed to construct the facility.

The K show in Germany city of Düsseldorf set October 16-23 will see Evonik Industries AG exhibit its patented rubber additive, Vestenamer, that allows transforming waste tires into products that can be applied to construct roads. The company’s additive makes the process of transforming waste tires into rubber powder that can be used in asphalt cost-efficient; this Evonik’s innovation is used in combination with road construction asphalt as it can improve the quality, thus extending the life of roads and boosting their durability preventing wearing off.
