Pyrum Innovations AG (Pyrum) together with the recycling company REMONDIS have announced the starting signal for planning a Pyrum plant for recycling used tires. A letter of intent was recently signed for this purpose. The plant will be located on a site owned by Weserport in Bremen, a subsidiary of REMONDIS sister company Rhenus. It will have a recycling capacity of 20,000 tons of old tires per year, from which the raw material carbon black will be recovered.

Scandinavian Enviro Systems (publ) has appointed Christian Bergaust as the new interim CFO. Bergaust comes most recently from the role of CFO at Alelion Energy Systems and previous assignments include that of CFO at listed Elos Medtech AB. Christian Bergaust took office on November 13 and will work in parallel with the current CFO Staffan Kullberg until he leaves in connection with the report for the third quarter on November 23 in accordance with what was previously announced.

Bridgestone and Michelin publish white paper to share the results of their work on the increased use of recovered carbon black in the tire industry. Following the joint call to action around recovered carbon black at the 2021 Smithers rCB conference, Bridgestone Corporation and Michelin Group have published a joint technical white paper to share the results of their work with stakeholders in the rCB community to develop a proposed global standard to increase the utilization of recovered carbon black material in tires. According to the latest press release by Tyre Stewardship Australia (TSA), every year, a staggering 500,000 tons of tires in Australia reach the end of their road, and shockingly, only a mere 15% of these materials are currently being repurposed in Australia. The rest are either exported overseas as fuel replacements or are stockpiled, dumped, or landfilled, contributing to an environmental challenge of immense proportions.

After a break, the TRAC Rubber Recycling Symposium returned to its biennial schedule with an October conference in Nova Scotia. TRAC's President and CEO, Carol Hochu, emphasized the collective journey toward sustainability as the central theme of the event. Hosted by Divert NS in Nova Scotia, the symposium delved into sustainability rather than mere recycling, with Divert NS CEO Stacy Breau spotlighting the province's successful stewardship program boasting an 88.5% recovery rate. The recovered material finds application in road construction and engineering projects, with the aim to shift from recycling to a waste reduction approach.

Zeppelin Systems secures engineering contract for ReOil's pyrolysis plant

Zeppelin Systems – the company that specializes in the design, construction, and technological upgrading of industrial plants – has secured the engineering contract for the construction of ReOil's second pyrolysis plant in Poland. Set to commence in February 2024, the large-scale facility, covering 27 acres, will have the capacity to recycle 60,000 tonnes of old tires annually.
