A British company Rosehill Security will start providing its security molded goods from recycled tires, including hostile vehicle mitigation (HVM) barriers, Ballistic Blocks and Rapid and Impakt Defenders to the US market after it signed a deal with ARX Perimeters (ARX). The production of Rapid and Impakt Defenders relies on recycled tire rubber, and uses polyurethane to get extra strength. The product can be used in almost all types of surfaces, ranging from roads to stadiums. It is also possible to apply them in combination with mobile perimeter and high-security fence systems – this would secure boosted protection.

After the news about the protest went viral on social media, the Department of Environment and the district Land Office decided to take measures. Their representatives went to the plant to negotiate with the facility’s owner. However, he refused to open the door. Shortly after that, the authorities informed police about the incident and cut the lock to the gate to be able to enter the plant, according to Health, Environment, Cooperatives and Consumerism committee chairman S. Funding of $4,000 for scrap tire recycling and clearance has now become available to Kentucky counties thanks to the local authority Waste Tire Trust Fund. Gary Logsdon who manages the program explained that the funding will not be provided to cover labor and equipment costs, but it will help cover expenses for actual tire recycling and clearance of scrap tires.

Recovered carbon black producer Pyrolyx AG is ready to set a second pyrolysis facility which will be constructed in Terre Haute, US. This move comes after the company relocated its main office from German Munich to Terre Haute, Indiana. One pyrolysis plant has already been built in the US by Pyrolyx; the company says that the next facility will be very similar to the US-based tire pyrolysis plant.

In January, the European Chemicals Agency (ECHA) presented a proposal seeking the restraint of the microplastics applications; the presented document relies on the Chemicals Agency’s studies of the threats that the added microplastics pose to environment and human health. All businesses, including tire recyclers, that are affected by the new proposal on microplastics of European Chemicals Agency, are welcome to reach the ECHA, as the organization will launch public consultation that will last until September 20. Meanwhile, ECHA called on the enterprises to make early submissions to facilitate the process.

The European Tyre Recycling Association (ETRA) that comprises nine board members has chosen its new vice president – the position is now held by the UK representative, Peter Taylor OBE, who is a former Secretary General of the Imported Tyre Manufacturers’ Association (ITMA). Peter Taylor is a very experienced specialist in the tire industry – he worked in the segment for more than 50 years, and he spent around two decades in the field of tire processing.

A Hungarian city of Zalaegerszeg in the Zala region will see the construction of a new rubber bitumen plant capable of recycling 20,000 tons of scrap tires annually; the facility is expected to become operative next year. The company behind the plant construction is the local energy and chemical company MOL. Moreover, the development is possible thanks to a huge investment allocated by MOL; at the same time, the State Enterprise Investment Support Program also provided partial funding to the initiative. In total, the sum of investment is estimated at 3 billion Hungarian Forint.
